Some time ago, I wrote an article entitled 4 Cool Ways To Deal With Doubts.
More recently, I recalled a time many years ago when I was at Bible School in Liverpool, England.
The teacher was talking about how to deal with negative thoughts. His step-by-step approach is very similar to how it is taught in other self-improvement programs:
- step one: you acknowledge the negative thought
- step two: you cancel the negative thought
- step three: you replace the canceled thought with a positive one
What if you have a very big, impossible, goal, and you have doubts about achieving it?
The following video has some very good advice.
Caveat here: you need to be familiar with the Mirror of the Mind Technique of the Silva Method.
This technique, along with the Mirror of The Mind technique, is taught on the Silva Life System program.
There are a lot of tips for using the Silva Method on YouTube™.
However, if you are a beginner and have never used these techniques before, it is best that you follow a structured approach to using the method.
Each lesson builds on the previous one and you get better and better at using your mind.
After getting your foundation set up, you go through four stages and each one takes you from beginner to advanced.
I consider this a much better approach rather than “cherry-picking” your way through brain and mind training.
Not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with “cherry-picking”…
By the way, note that I did not say you “should”. Only that it is best.
I would highly recommend that you sign up.
If you are already a practitioner of the Silva Method, you will be familiar with the statement from the Centering Exercise:
“negative thoughts and negative suggestions have no influence over me at any level of the mind”.
This is the statement we tell ourselves when we “go to level”, that is, into the Alpha mental state.
Laura Silva Quesada also does a full, powerful, webinar on how to deal with fear, doubt and rejection.
Do you have an Inadequate Self Image?
Recently, I read a story in a revised version of Joe Karbo’s book entitled The Lazy Man’s Way To Riches.
An insurance company advertised for salespeople who were capable of earning $100,000 or more.
No one responded to the ad.
The company dropped the target to $40,000 and got a more positive response.
There was one caveat. Whoever was taken on had to be willing to have a change of mindset for achieving the original target.
You can probably guess what happened.
Those selected on this criterion not only matched the target. In some cases, it was surpassed.
The concept discussed in the book is referred to as an Inadequate Self Image (ISI), and is usually related to negative programming that has been internalized from the primary, secondary and tertiary socialization (read: programming) stages of a person’s life.
These people had to be willing to work on their ISI.
It is not a terrible thing in itself to have doubts.
The issue arises when the stories you tell yourself about yourself includes those self-doubts you have about yourself…
…and you allow those doubts to stop you from taking ANY action towards your goals because you are, perhaps, afraid of making a mistake.
Who was it who said
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life”?
To a better, wiser, stronger – YOU.
